How To's

Instructions for using adhesive backed decorative papers:

  • Cut papers in desired width, about 2" longer than needed. (For additional lengths, see splicing instructions below.) Do not remove from release board until ready to apply to mat.
  • Mark mat lightly with a pencil as a guide only, along one side of paper panel location. Erase any marks that extend beyond the corners.
  • Peel paper panel from the release board, then lay it gently on the pre-marked mat, barely covering the pencilled guide lines. Allow the paper panel to extend beyond the corners made where the panels cross. (See illustration)

Lift and remove overlapping ends beyond corners
  • After all 4 panels are in place, use a razor blade or razor knife to cut free hand through both panels at the same time, forming the 45°corner. The same basic technique can be used to splice panels, creating longer lengths of paper. Overlap two strips, the cut at a 45° angle to form a nearly invisible splice.
  • To finish, burnish the panel (we recommend using a burnishing bone) and the bond becomes permanent.
  • Be gentle. This material is pressure sensitive. Do not apply any excess pressure before you have the strips where you want them.
  • If you find that you need a straight edge when trimming corners and splicing, use a small strip of release paper to prevent premature sticking.
  • Some products, including all-rag board, foils and some plastics adhere more aggressively to this adhesive. Such materials are easier to work with after a light application of matte fixative or Tuffilm spray.
