Macon, Georgia artist Betty Bivins Edwards, is a life long southerner whose work depicts Southern scenes, often metaphorically exploring and celebrating various aspects of what it is to be Southern. Here Betty documents the Georgia Female College as it once appeared on College Street in Macon, Georgia. Founded in 1836, this was the first chartered college for women. Now known as Wesleyan College, the school operates from a beautiful new campus on Forsyth Road.
Having received her BA degree in math from Georgia College, Betty has continued to pursue her art education at Wesleyan. She has also taught art classes herself through the Wesleyan Outreach program. The recipient of many grants and honors, Betty’s talent is best judged by her loyal and enthusiastic fans.
